ABOUT US

Safari by accident

We are Katharine and Leigh Hunt and we organise great safaris.

Since 2012 Katharine has been Safaris Client Manager doing just that for demanding clients in the UK and US for a family run UK travel company where the owners have recently decided to retire.

For much of his working life Leigh has had major roles in American companies working in Europe and around the world. Those roles necessitated lots of travel and saw Kath accompany Leigh to a conference in Johannesburg in 1996. At the conclusion of the conference we found that our host had organised an impromptu safari to Botswana for the weekend.

After a lengthy drive to the Botswana border we arrived after dark at the cable car crossing at Pont Drift to find the border “closed” for the day. Strings were pulled, an immigration officer appeared and we crossed the Limpopo river in the inky darkness to the sound of the tractor engine as it hauled the cable car across the river. After two magical days and nights in the remote bush, witnesssing a leopard kill and a herd of 300 elephants, the seeds were sown. Africa had worked its magic and all this time later, here we are running Safari Co.

In the intervening years we have travelled extensively in the area of Southern Africa where we specialise. We have climbed, walked, swam, rafted, crawled, driven, snorkelled, photographed, flown, boated, fished, ridden (horses), tracked, tested – tents, beds, breakfasts, brunches, braais, bars, sundowners, suppers, sleepouts & star beds from Cape Town to Kenya.

Safari Co. creates and arranges safari holidays for discerning clients. We sell our safaris through Hemisphere Travel Group Ltd. Hemisphere Travel Group is licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority and holds an Air Travel Organisers Licence (ATOL T7550) and are Travel Trust Association (Q3174) members, protecting all clients’ monies.
